As I was having trouble on figuring out stylizing the characters for texture surfacing, I realized I must do deep research. I collaborate with two of my colleagues about color theme and art stylization. Rigby, who supported character artists including me, created and organized the color ideas for the short. We had a discussion about how we want the characters' skin tones should be stylized. Rigby gave me a skin tone reference that really has good color palettes. Our goal was not to make too "doll-like." We have been looking at reference such as Guilty Gear (an anime series) and Arcane (an animated series based on League of Legends; one of my favorite series to enjoy).

Guilty Gear

Arcane

I have been researching of other ways to texture paint like those two series. The first research I found is how to hand paint like Anime style.

The youtube link demonstrate a timelapse of an artist painting a 3D modeled anime character and textured it as a 2D style. As I am going through the video, I hope this one will work. If the process is too flat and not become successful, I found an artist who worked on Silco character from Arcane. The video is eleven hours long.

For today, my team, myself, and my faculties discussed about what we did this week. All of my teammates shared their progress and what their plan is. I shared with them of my deep research, and that I will get started on texturing the Hunter to test it out. After we finished sharing our work progress, we had suggestions that we do not have a lot of animators. Most of us were 3D Modelers, Texture Artists, and Environment Artists. Our goal is to get everything blocked out which would be our 50% completion of our short. I think my faculties were right that we need to participate on animating because we do not want our short to have a weird result. For right now, I know I am currently working on texture experimentation. I believe next week or two I should participate with my team on animating the characters. As a character artist, I must animate!

During class, we had a headshot for our BFA website. I hope it turned out nicely. Not only an individual headshot, one of my colleague believed that we should have a group photo together to show who we are.
