The Hunter character was the longest process I ever experienced. I know I mentioned a lot that creating characters is one of my biggest goals for my future career and passion. I really want to say that this character was the biggest success I ever had.
I never felt very proud on how much work I did so far for this production. Creating character models and sculpts showed me many challenges such as stylizing and knowing the proportions. Above, this is my overall Hunter character. It is ready to be textured, rigged, and animated. I really want to thank to one of my group members who supported me on how to improve on character sculpting. I never thought this would take me a long time to finish up this character. I am feeling even more proud than before.
The biggest challenges I went so far was the hair. I never made a stylized hair throughout my college years in Digital Animation Center program. Hair was my first experimentation. What I learned was using a Makkon Hair tool brush. This one is one of the useful tools to use for making a stylized hair. It was complicated to work on because this tool was very new to me, and the way it was functioned it was difficult to work with. It takes lots of patience and time to work on. I have been working on this during my Thanksgiving break. My goal was finishing up the hair which was my last priority for this character and finalizing the sculpt. I shared that upon with my group that I will get to this and finish that over break. I showed my progress with my group. One of my group members who always supported me from stylizing gave me so much critique. It took me the whole break to get it done. I started over a few times until I decide to make Plan A and Plan B. Plan A was either making different hair strand sizing. Plan B was to start from bangs then to the back of the hair. Plan A failed because the results looked weird and not what I wanted to look like. I was hoping if there was any good progress and improvement for this Plan B. I knew the back of the hair was very simple to work on but the bangs was the hardest of all because it contains a cowlick. The bangs took me a while to figure out. I took my time on making the bangs first. Instead of making the hair look symmetrical, I decided to create a little volume on the left side of Hunter's head to give a little personality. It was getting along pretty well. After I finish to the back of the head, I look around the Hunter and stare at it for many hours...
I love him!
I feel this is one of my best moments I experienced so far with this work and this semester. I really hope that as I go along with this work and giving support with my team will go great towards the end of this semester and the next. ~
