Playtype & E-Types Studio were our studio visit before we finish our trip in two days. Their focus is creating fonts and arranging letters and text which is known as Typography.
I never done Typography in my life, but most of my Digital Design colleagues learned this before. While we were watching their presentation, they gave us some warm-up. We create our own fonts by three different attitudes such as angry, drunk, and happy. We get to decide which emotion we want and create a font that relies with that emotion. We had to write "Avandogte." I chose happy emotion because I feel it is simple for me to work on, and it is more of my personality. Playtype & E-Types also taught me about how to measure the letter to keep it steady and organized. They explained how the letters contain a stem, shoulder, contrast, and weight. It reminded me back when I was in kindergarten I learned on writing properly on every letter. Even with cursive, I remember I had to learn that in third grade. While I was working on my letters, I felt like my letter A was not as creative but the rest looked pretty formal and not too crazy. I found that I was suppose to make big letters and cut them out. I unfortunately did not finish cutting the holes on letter D, G, O, and E, but overall, I personally love the way it looks. We shared our letters and had to guess what the emotion of their letters are. Most of them did drunk emotion and some did angry and happy. It was really fun leisure. I could practice this every day to make my handwriting better.
For those who love making fonts and experienced Typography, this studio is for you to see. I really had a great time getting to know them. ~
